In the early morning hours Sunday, September 14th, tragedy struck. One loved by many was driving on the interstate near Gibbon, Nebraska when a pickup going the other direction lost control, crossed the median, and hit head-on. In just a moment, their entire world—and the lives of everyone who loves them—changed forever.

They were rushed into an emergency surgery that lasted many, many hours. The impact left them with devastating injuries:

• A compound fracture in the left femur, now repaired with a rod

• Both kneecaps shattered and surgically pinned

• A broken right ankle reinforced with plates

• Their body covered in deep bruises and trauma from the collision

The only miracle we can hold onto is that she is still with us. Still, doctors are keeping them intubated togive their fragile body the chance to begin healing. Right now, recovery is unknown—the only known factor is that it will be long, painful, and full of many challenges.

This person is more than just a patient in a hospital bed—they are a daughter, a friend, and a light in the lives of so many people. To see them so broken is beyond heartbreaking, and the road ahead is one no one should have to walk alone.
